Future Piano

What - KD supported Future Piano in generating early design proposals for a world first lightweight standing grand piano, helping them to win a Design Foundations grant from Innovate UK. This funded a user-centred design study lead by KD, where we explored new opportunities around the innovative new type of piano.

The Standing Grand brings together a hybrid of traditional and advanced materials, designed to maximise the sound whilst minimising the weight, reaching up to 350kgs lighter than some traditional grand pianos. Standing Grand has been purposefully designed to be light and compact enough to bring the fullness of a grand piano’s sound into modern homes, practise rooms and small venues.
