The image above is a teaser shot (as much as we dare show at this stage) of a gorgeous new kitchen we designed for London based manufacturers Robert Timmons Furniture. It's called R45 and will be launched at this year's 100% Design at Earls Court London. Here's what RTF say about the project...
The R45 - A new concept in kitchen design by Robert Timmons Furniture
Robert Timmons Furniture, winner of the 2007 Designer Magazine Kitchen Designer Of The Year Award, will be launching their latest development in kitchen design, The R45, at this year’s 100% Design exhibition at Earls Court.
With the desire to create something visually stunning, different and yet still practical, RTF have broken away from the traditional square edges seen on most kitchens. Introducing a 45mm radius detail to their latest kitchen collection they have blended the sides and tops into one continuous flowing surface.
David Keech, managing director at Keechdesign was commissioned to drive the project forward. Capitalising on his experience of nurturing new concepts and enforcing design integrity, David, together with RTF, selected a combination of Corian and stainless steel for the exterior curved cladding of the furniture. With a rubberised coating on the cabinet frontage they have created a durable, yet tactile element to the R45 Kitchen.
"Modern kitchens all seem to look so similar." Robert Timmons points out when asked about the design concept. "So we were keen to try something new which could create us a new identity."
Since winning the prestigious design award in 2007, Robert Timmons Furniture has gone from strength to strength. Their versatility has made them popular with architects and designers looking to develop new furniture concepts and create unique and individually tailored kitchens for their clients.
RTF will be supported by Gaggenau, Blum, KWC, Du Pont & Foster.
To see the R45 kitchen visit Robert Timmons Furniture at stand number J38 at 100% Design, Earls Court, London. 24-27 September 2009.
Robert Timmons and Keechdesign's Relationship
We felt that Keechdesign were ideally suited to this project due to their experience in both architecture and product design; to us the kitchen is a unique place where these disciplines coexist. R45 represents a fusion of spatial logic and engineering detailing, underpinned with the interior designer's sensitivity to surfaces and materials. Keech says, "We were drawn to geometry, and the development of a strong visual language that would coalesce vertical and horizontal surfaces and their junctions." From this R45 was born.
