Yamaha Music commissions Keechdesign to create inspiring and ground breaking piano lounge space in Harrods Knightsbridge

We are delighted to have been commissioned by Yamaha Music UK Ltd to create an inspiring, contemporary and creative area for Yamaha Pianos in Harrods. The space will also incorporate a studio lounge dedicated to Yamaha's award-winning Disklavier Pianos which combine traditional pianos with unique Yamaha state of the art hi-technology offering playback and recording facilities with the capability to 'communicate' with each other online.

It is the conceptual and flexible nature of this 'Disklavier Lounge' that marks out the design and communications challenge facing Keechdesign who must simultaneously convey the full capabilities and technology of the Disklavier in an environment which must feel like a living space and yet function as a high technology studio whilst also reinforcing the quality and craftsmanship of Yamaha grand pianos. As well as the lounge space, the brief calls for a large open plan area containing up to six upright pianos and four more grand pianos, including an eye-catching Elton John limited edition.

Yamaha selected Keechdesign because of their extensive experience of combining 3-dimensional design with luxury consumer products within an interior context and their history of working with global Japanese brands. The new Harrods Piano space is due to open formally this autumn.

David Keech comments "We are delighted to be working with Yamaha again and are particularly excited about the marriage of hi-technology products with interior design. Our key issues are portraying high quality, and creating a contemporary environment for both craftsmanship and technology to sit side by side. We plan to achieve this with innovative design matched by the use of high quality materials and finishes which will convey the very high brand values associated with both Yamaha and Harrods. Yamaha pianos are selected by many of the world's most popular and discerning classical and contemporary musicians including Sir Paul McCartney, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and Sir Elton John, and we'll be emphasizing these unique Yamaha artist relationships too."
