Bush TR.82 Radio
From 1954 and designed by David Ogle Associates, our longest standing British design consultancy, now Ogle Noor Ltd. A landmark in consumer product design and British innovation and manufacturing.

Still in production to this day, albeit in DAB format. Is that new technology fitting neatly into classic styling or is it disguising said technology with sentimental homage to a bygone era? You can decide. It can be found on Amazon for about 53 quid (a price tag that might be at odds with the original simple concept) or at Bush. I believe you can also get the original transistor version from specialist suppliers.

What better way to describe the product than from the original 50's brochure:

In this transistor age the name is
BUSH
For a Bush transistor portable is a companion when you are alone and a welcome friend in any company. Wherever you are you can hear your favourite programmes - music, plays, news. In the workshop or in the kitchen, in the living room or in the bedroom a Bush transistor radio will bring them all to you with a quality of reproduction that is quite exceptional.
Low running costs, months of use between battery changes (which, in any case, cost only a few shillings), reliability and a performance equal to many a mains receiver are some of the assets built into every Bush model.

This next image is the VTR.103, a 9 transistor, 3 diode version capable of VHF, and with other features such as a tape output, and telescopic aerial.

And finally, an advertising shot (note the text) showing how fashion sat with product design in the 50's. Pretty comfortably I think you'll agree...

I love the product placement shots - simple and to the point! And the styling is iconic - it just says "Radio". I think I may seek out the transistor version...

Do you know if these are available with a wire? Cause I can imagine that the batteries wont last very long and that it will be very expensive. What do you think?
