Interior at FIRA

We designed the new look interior for FIRA's headquarters (FIRA are the Furniture Industry Research Association). The large foyer area is now fully up and running and boasts an exciting new showcase for furniture design and innovation. For more on FIRA look here. We kept as much of the original 1960's timber architecture as intact as possible, and focussed on bold use of corporate colours and clear functionality of the space. Here are some recent shots of the finished scheme:

MUJI

Japanese retailer Muji have had a presence here in London for nearly 20 years now. What started 30 years ago out of a supermarket with just a handful of products, has grown into an empire that provides the whole gamut of domestic items to consumers across the world, from cat-shaped paper clips, to earthquake survival packs. Back home, they also run cafés, campsites, a cut flower delivery service and are turning their attentions to motor vehicles and even houses.

The full title of ‘Mujirushi Ryohin’ (No Brand, Quality Goods) begins to explain their approach. The aim initially was to provide useful, low-impact goods at an affordable price, without compromising quality.

Designer Feature: Naoto Fukasawa

From the crisp mountain home of Seiko-Epson, to hip San Francisco and a little place called IDEO, then back to Japan to set up IDEO’s Tokyo office, then his own consultants, and eventually his own brand…

Now after a 30 year career, Naoto Fukasawa is bringing sense to brands at the very top, and bottom of the market and across numerous industries. Like many of his celebrity designer contemporaries, Fukasawa has been involved in diverse enough projects that you could pretty much live out the rest of your life in a bubble of his creations, that’s if you can get hold of them of course...
